Open Cola WorkshopOn the day of the neighbourhood, the 29th May 2015, a neighbourhood festival took place in Berlin Weißensee also near the Kubiz project house. Since our association wanted to contribute something to the success of this day, we decided an action from the “Water and Sustainability”-project: the “Open Cola” booth.

The aim was beside the practical “beverage supply aspect”, to put attention on and discuss the privatization of basic to all life water resources by large beverage companies, such as Coca Cola or Pepsi Cola. We wanted to explain what consequences come and to demonstrate a practical alternative for self-making. For this purpose we prepared a cola syrup with the help of the free published “Open Cola” – recipe (following the “open source” principles). By using sparkled local Berlin tap water, we prepare a more intense or milder cola drink to taste.

In particular, the numerous children in the neighbourhood festival were often surprised that water is predominantly in cola and how delicious was the homemade drink. But also among adults pushed the Open Cola with great interest and a lot of praise. Since we used organic raw cane sugar from fair trade and with favorable water footprint, the Cola was also a particularly organic-fair aroma 🙂
